Frequently Asked Questions

Registration

Where and when can I register?
Spring registration opens December 1 and is completed through SportsConnect. You can access registration by clicking Register in the upper right corner of the PSLL website. Registration is first-come, first-served until each division is full. Due to field and time constraints, some divisions may move to a waitlist.

Do I need a SportsConnect account to register?
Yes. You’ll need to log in to your SportsConnect account to view available seasons and complete registration.

What does the spring season cost? Player fees vary by division and are paid by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover) through SportsConnect. Thanks to our sponsors, fees cover preseason workouts, player jerseys, professionally staffed practices, umpires, and field support.

What is PSLL’s refund policy?
Refunds are available until March 15. After that date, refunds will be issued minus a $25 fee.

Can I register my child if I’m unsure about league eligibility or league age?
Yes. Families should complete registration through SportsConnect even if they’re unsure about eligibility or division placement. Eligibility is primarily based on where the player lives or goes to school, but families outside the PSLL boundary should still register, and PSLL will request a waiver if needed. Recent rule changes also allow children 7 years old and under to play in any league, regardless of location. If your child’s school isn’t listed, select “Other” and continue registration.

How are league age and division placement determined?
PSLL follows official Little League age charts. For baseball, league age is based on a player’s age as of August 31 of the current year. For softball, it is based on a player’s age as of December 31 of the previous year. SportsConnect automatically assigns players to divisions based on this information.

Schedules & Pre-Season Activities

Each season, practice and game schedules remain tentative until field permits are finalized. As a parent-run organization, we understand families’ desire to plan ahead when registering for activities. Below is a table of projected practice and game dates by division, subject to field availability. Opening Weekend Parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 28!

When do practices start?
Preseason evaluations and practices will be held through the start of the season. All registered families will receive these details in early March. Team practice schedules are set after teams are formed, and coaches will share team schedules directly with families.

How often and when are practices held?
Most teams practice 1–2 times per week, depending on division guidelines, coach availability, and field access. Practice days and times vary by team and by week, and cannot be guaranteed.

When are game schedules released?
Game schedules are typically released shortly before the season begins, once teams and field allocations are finalized.

Where are practices and games held?
ConEd is PSLL’s primary location. While NYC field permits are still being finalized, PSLL plans to use ConEd Field, East River Fields, Stuy Town Playgrounds, Peters Field, Robert Moses Field, and Murphy Brothers Playground.

What is the game/practice cancellation policy, and how am I informed?
PSLL makes every effort to play, including in light rain and cooler temperatures. ConEd’s turf field drains well, helping us keep games on schedule when possible. If a game or practice is canceled, the coach or team parent will notify families. Cancellations are made one game at a time—an early cancellation does not automatically cancel later games.

Do you offer fall and winter clinics/workouts for softball and baseball?
Fall clinics are offered for Tee Ball, Baseball (ages 6–8), and Minors/Majors, typically as two-hour weekend sessions. Schedules are subject to field availability and are usually announced in August. Winter workouts for both baseball and softball begin in January, with registration opening in December. PSLL will provide more information as the locations and times are finalized. All players must be registered to participate.

Can I request specific teammates and coaches?
PSLL will try to accommodate requests for younger ages (not guaranteed), but for minors and majors, PSLL will create teams with parity in mind.

Other FAQs

What standards does the league follow for game structure?
Our league follows Little League International rules and safety standards for game structure, including division format, pitching rules, pitch counts, and required rest periods. Most games last approximately two hours. Within these guidelines, the league may make limited local adjustments to support player development and scheduling needs.

Who are the coaches?
All teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches. In addition, the league partners with professional vendors to support player development—providing instructional clinics for younger divisions (such as Tee Ball and AAA) and staffing cage practices to supplement team training.

When do kids start pitching in Little League?
Players typically begin pitching in games at ages 8–10, in the Minors division. Before that, divisions use a tee, coach pitch, or machine pitch to focus on hitting and fundamentals. Pitching is introduced gradually, with strict pitch count and rest rules to protect young arms.

Can I volunteer to coach? Or volunteer to help in another capacity?
Absolutely, PSLL would love to have you! Just log in through the registration portal, and look for for “Volunteer” on the left side to sign up.. If you do not have a child in the league, but would still like to get involved, please email us at [email protected]

In addition to instructing the players, coaches are responsible for managing and storing the team equipment bag and tracking team attendance. Coaches are also required to complete NYC Parks-mandated AED/CPR training/certification. All coaches should attend the league's preseason coaches clinic at no cost. Thank you for volunteering!

How do I sign up for league communications?
During our active season, the league sends regular, weekly emails to registered families from the previous year (Fall and Spring). If you are new to PSLL and would like to join our email list, send an email to [email protected].

Can I sponsor a team or PSLL in general?
Yes! We welcome sponsorships. You can sponsor a team or multiple teams. Please see the sponsorship form for more details and the menu of options. Thank you in advance for supporting PSLL.

What kind of equipment do we need to participate?
With the exception of mitts/gloves, PSLL provides all teams with approved equipment for players to use in games and practices. It is not necessary for parents to purchase equipment for their child to participate in the league.

What uniform items are included, and what do families need to purchase?
Each registered player receives a PSLL practice shirt, team jersey, socks, belt, and hat. Families are responsible for purchasing pants—white for baseball and black for softball. Pants are widely available at retailers such as Amazon, Paragon (18th & Broadway), and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Turf cleats are recommended, as is protective gear for many players, especially those playing catcher or in older divisions—at the family’s discretion.

Where can I purchase PSLL merch?
Keep an eye on your email—we’ll share details on when the team store opens for the season!
